Join us this summer for a Storytelling Retreat & Adventure – 7 days of practice and performance, day-trips and discovery. It is an in-depth storytelling and story-listening workshop, designed for all levels of expertise; from beginner to experienced teller. We will work on finding, developing, learning, and polishing stories in a supportive and encouraging atmosphere. Delving deeply into story, we will focus on integrating the voice with images, gestures and emotion. Also included are companion listening, Tai Chi, and individual feedback sessions; and all the while, paying attention to and nurturing our creativity. There will be free time to work on our stories, relax, or explore Asheville.

Day-trips to Spruce Pine, Banner Elk and more:
During the week, we will journey to the Hicks home – the birthplace of Ray Hicks who was the patriarch of Southern Traditional Storytelling. We will meet with Ray's widow and son, Rosa and Ted and enjoy breathtaking views of Beech Mountain and beyond. During the afternoon, there will be a chance to enjoy Rosa's field of dahlias in full bloom, and hear a few stories and ballads. We will also visit Ray's final resting place and arrive back in Asheville as the sun sets.
On another day, we will enjoy the Toe River Storytelling Festival featuring Grammy award-winning musician and storyteller, David Holt, national favorite teller Sheila Kay Adams and our own, Connie Regan-Blake. The festival is held on the banks of a river, set in a small town with friendly locals, craft stores and good eats.

Other optional outings may include ‘Shindig on the Green' for an outdoor concert of traditional music and dance and a jaunt on the Blue Ridge Parkway.
Performance Opportunity and Finishing Touches:
This full week of story work and story adventure prepares us for a performance opportunity on Thursday evening for invited guests, family and friends. Friday will be an occasion for feedback and critiquing Thursday evening's performance and reviewing the week. Then Saturday we will head to Spruce Pine for the Toe River Storytelling Festival and enjoy a day of listening in Riverside Park, an intimate setting under a tent. Then we head back to Asheville to say our good-byes.
Please spread the word about this workshop to others who might want to join us.
“Connie's generosity as a storyteller and workshop presenter and genuineness as a human being are only a few of the qualities which make her so appealing and endearing. ”
